Metal-Tacks
Metal-Tack fasteners were specifically developed to fasten lightweight parts such as
nameplates and wiring clips to heavier metal products such as pumps, valves and machinery.
They fasten quickly and permanently with no drilling or surface preparation. Permanently
embedded fastener holds up to 250 pounds.
Permanent Fastening Without Drilling or Adhesives
Metal-Tacks are manufactured from special steel alloys and stainless steel and then
precisely heat treated and tempered so they are much harder and tougher than the material
into which they are being driven. This process creates fasteners that can penetrate metal
as hard as Brinnell 240 and set themselves in metal as thin as 1/8" (even thinner if
the metal is supported). They will fasten to steel, many grades of cast iron, stainless
steel, brass, bronze and aluminum.
Metal-Tacks are
perfect for fastening nameplates, barcode tags, wiring clips or any other lightweight
attachment. A portable, safe, single impact air hammer allows the operator to position the
attachment before fastening. This eliminates the problem of having to precisely locate
holes in the base material and then precisely align those holes with the ones in the
attachment.
1. The Metal-Tack is placed in the hole of the attachment and against the base metal.
2. Driving the Metal-Tack forces the base metal to form a crater-shaped ring.
3. When fully driven, the displaced metal is permanently embedded in the locking groove.
Thin drill bits are easily broken and difficult to extract from base metals. Metal-Tacks
form their own hole, which eliminates drilling. Adhesives require a clean surface and can
fail if attached to oily or greasy surfaces. Metal-Tacks need no surface cleanup. They are
not affected by dirt, oil, or grease.
A Heavy-Duty
Solution to Light-Load Fastening
Metal-Tacks eliminate costly problems associated
with other fastening methods. Adhesives are messy and may be less than permanent. Other fasteners that require drilled holes also require perfect alignment between base metal and
attachment. In addition, drilling holes may cause damage by drilling too deep and metal
drill chips are difficult to completely clean up. Metal-Tack's
single action assembly eliminates all these problems and provides a fast and permanent
fastening for lightweight attachments.

Punch-Pins
Now you can fasten light loads to sheet metal in less time than it takes to drill a hole. This simple, quick fastener is perfect for attaching nameplates, wiring clips and small components to metal doors, electrical cabinets, steel tubing, etc.
Position the Punch-Pin on the tip of the tool, push the tool against the base metal and pull the trigger. The Punch-Pin is driven in a single impact. The fastening is fast and permanent.

The hardened steel fastener drives through dirt, oil, grease and most paints. Specially shaped, annular grooves bite into the softer base metal and form a permanent attachment which holds up to 250 pounds. No cleaning, no drilling.
A Punch Pin makes its own hole in the base metal so there is never a problem aligning attachment holes with base metal holes.
Punch-Pin selection is based upon the part that is going to be fastened (attachment) and the material that it is going to be fastened to (base metal).
Attachment: Typical attachments are nameplates, wiring clips and small components. The attachments should be less than .040" thick. Unless the attachment is very thin (foil, paper, etc.) it will need to have a hole in it. Hole sizes may range from .078" to .125". Larger holes provide an easier target for the operator.
Base Metal: Punch-Pins will fasten to sheet metal from 14 gage (.075") to 24 gage (.024"). They will also fasten to many soft metals thicker than .075". Metals harder than HRB65 may require a Metal-Tack fastener (available from Amtak).
Punch-Pin Material and Plating: Standard Punch-Pins are manufactured from carbon steel and are bright zinc plated. They will pass a minimum 120-hour salt spray test in accordance with ASTM B117.
Special Fasteners: Punch-Pins may be used for a wide variety of applications including electrical contacts and balance weights. Please call us if our standard Punch-Pin does not fit your application. Our engineers will be happy to work with you in exploring the possiblilty of a special fastener.
Tack Mounts:
Nail Cable Tie Mounts to Metal
Now you can quickly and permanently fasten PANDUIT™ Cable Tie Mounts to metal without drilling or any other surface preparation. Just place the Tack-Mount on the tip of an Amtak air tool, position and impact the preinserted Metal-Tack directly into steel, aluminum or cast iron.
The Tack-Mounts are manufactured from a special impact resistant plastic with preinserted hardened steel Metal-Tacks. No more drilling holes for rivets or screws and no more cleaning to prep for adhesives. The Tack-Mounts will be permanently secured to the metal surface but still able to rotate for final alignment.
The Amtak Air Tool
A lightweight, portable, air hammer is used for making attachments to large pieces of
equipment or machinery.
The Amtak air tool is designed for the simple application of Metal-Tack, Punch-Pin, Gripnail, or Swisslok fasteners. Fasteners are placed on the magnetic driver and the tool is activated by a trigger which delivers a single controlled impact.
The Metal-Tacks are held on the tip of a magnetized driver, which allows the operator a clear view of his fastening operation. The tool operates on 4-7 bar. The amount of impact is regulated by air pressure and there is a safety interlock which absorbs the impact if the tool is accidentally activated.
Impact is only delivered when the trigger is activated and the driver is depressed against a solid work surface. A series of magnetic drivers are available to accommodate different fasteners and fastening situations.
